Jonathan Henderson
Jonathan is currently in his fifth year of study for a Master of Music Degree at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Chairman’s Award in the Sirens ’07 Brass Band Composition Competition (for his composition A Sea Journey).
Jonathan is a prolific composer. He has undertaken residencies with The Australian Voices and the Marist College Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, Macarthur Clough recorded his clarinet concerto with a 50-piece student orchestra, and Ensemble Ulysses took Timepiece (a commissioned work) on the Gertrude Langer Chamber Music Prize tour throughout regional Queensland. In 2007, he was commissioned to create two works, Dirty Apple (for Opera Queensland) and Prelude (for Wonderbrass and Euphoria, the joint winners of the 2007 Gertrude Langer Chamber Music Prize). He has created orchestration and arrangements for numerous artists and ensembles including Sally Walker (Australian flautist), Floyd Williams (lecturer in clarinet at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University), the Val Machin Opera Scenes - Scenes from Orpheus in the Underworld and the Queensland Conservatorium Wind Ensemble (for the 2007 Gala Wind Celebration Concert as part of the Conservatorium’s 50th anniversary celebrations).
Jonathan is also an accomplished flautist. Upon completing his Master of Music Degree in 2010 he will undertake postgraduate study in Germany.
