Dane Lam
Dane was born in Brisbane. He studied piano and conducting at The University of Queensland, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music. In 2007, he was accepted by the Royal College of Music (in London) and The Juilliard School (in New York) to pursue his Master of Music Degree in Conducting. Dane chose to enrol in The Juilliard School’s conducting program, moving to New York to study with James DePreist (this has been supported by the Australia Council).
Recently, Dane was appointed to the coveted position of Junior Fellow in Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. He will assume the position in September 2009. As Junior Fellow, he will conduct all of the college’s orchestras, and work with renowned conductors Sir Mark Elder CBE, Clark Rundell, Baldur Brönnimann and Mark Shanahan.
Since appearing with the Sydney Symphony in the Sydney Opera House at age 18, Dane has conducted the Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmania Symphony Orchestras, The Queensland Orchestra, Sofia Festival Orchestra, Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato, Juilliard Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Orchestra and The University of Queensland Orchestra.
Dane has been the recipient of the Brian Stacey Memorial Trust Prize, The Pellegrino Scholarship, the Dalley-Scarlett Memorial Scholarship, the Bruno Walter Memorial Scholarship and the Boris Christoff Scholarship. He is a beneficiary of the Symphony Services Australia Podium Program as well as the Sydney Symphony’s Stuart Challender Foundation and is currently a member of Opera Queensland’s Young Artist Program. Dane has been mentored by distinguished conductors such as Gianluigi Gelmetti and Christopher Seaman. He has attended masterclasses with Kurt Masur, Michael Tilson-Thomas, Sir Charles Mackerras, Werner Andreas Albert, Jorma Panula and Johannes Fritzsch. |
